Individual
Therapy
My
belief is that people develop symptoms like chronic
anger, anxiety or depression as coping strategies
to help them deal with feelings, events or situations
they can find no other way to manage. While symptom
relief is a goal of all therapies, unless the
underlying issues which cause the symptoms are
resolved, then they simply return when therapy
is finished.
While
we might like to think that we know ourselves
very well, our feelings, thoughts and motivations
are at times beyond our awareness.

Speaking with a trained observer can be helpful
in shedding light on those areas so that rather
than avoiding what causes us pain, we are able
to see our way through it. In this way, the foundation
is laid not only for relief of symptoms, but for
increased abilities to cope with life.
Each
of us has within us the ability to heal ourselves;
I see the work of psychotherapist as that of a
midwife providing the space and setting for the
healing to take place.
